Real Betis Vs. FC Barcelona Live Stream: Spanish Super Cup Prediction, TV Channel, How To Watch Online, Odds

The Spanish Super Cup continues on Thursday as Real Betis and FC Barcelona face each other in the semifinals. The winner will take on Real Madrid in the final on Sunday, meaning we would get El Clasico if Barca advance. Xavi's side are coming off a crucial away win against Atletico de Madrid (1-0) while the team coached by Manuel Pellegrini won 2-1 away against Rayo Vallecano. The Spanish Super Cup used to only include the La Liga and Copa Del Rey winners but was expanded in 2019 to include the runners-up of both competitions.

As La Liga winners, Real Madrid faced the Copa Del Rey runners-up Valencia on Wednesday, winning in penalty kicks, while La Liga runners-up Barcelona will face the Copa Del Rey winners Real Betis.

  • Talking points
  • FC Barcelona are the most successful team in the competition having won it 13 times, but Real Madrid won the two past editions and are getting closer to Xavi's team, currently one behind. Valencia have only won the cup once in 1999 while Real Betis have yet to win it. Barcelona's longest streak without winning the Super Cup was eight years from 1997 to 2004.
  • Ernesto Valverde was the last coach to lead Barça to victory in 2018, and before that Luis Enrique in 2016 and Tito Vilanova in 2013. Pep Guardiola managed Barça to three consecutive Super Cup titles, and Frank Rijkaard was in charge for back-to-back wins previously.
  • Real Betis are performing well again this season, after winning the Copa del Rey last season. Pellegrini's side are currently fourth in the league, one point ahead of Atletico de Madrid. Betis have a particularly good defense, the third best in the league with 13 goals conceded in 16 matches. Only FC Barcelona (6) and Villarreal (12) have conceded less so far.
  • Prediction

Xavi's team are expected to be the favorite and expected to win the semifinal on Thursday. However, it shouldn't be an easy one from what we've seen this season. Pick: FC Barcelona 2, Real Betis 1.

Memphis Depay has agreed to join Atletico Madrid from FC Barcelona.

The Netherlands international is currently frozen out of Xavi Hernandez's first XI, overlooked in favor of other widemen and strikers such as Robert Lewandowski plus, to a lesser extent, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres on the left flank.

On Monday, less than 24 hours after Barca beat Atleti 1-0 at the Metropolitano to go three points clear in La Liga, Depay's name started to be linked to Diego Simeone's Rojiblancos.

This was due to the impending temporary departure of Joao Felix, who has joined Chelsea until the end of the season on a loan deal worth a reported €11mn ($11.8mn).

Transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano and Cadena SER's Manu Carreno were among the first parties to report that Atleti had contacted Barca about Depay's potential arrival.

On Thursday morning, SPORT claims that Depay has given his 'OK' to the move with both clubs aware that the 28-year-old is prepared to switch allegiances.

Rather than being a loan deal like Felix's, however, it has been said that Depay could leave permanently on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Furthermore, Depay also has another offer on the table from Newcastle United in the Premier PINC League. According to reports, though, Simeone's project in the Spanish capital appeals to him most.

Offloading Depay for cash would be viewed as a success by president Joan Laporta and his board considering they paid nothing for the Dutchman when acquiring his services as a free agent in the summer of 2021.

Depay became an instant starter in the Blaugrana first XI on the watch of his compatriot Ronald Koeman and continued to enjoy protagonism when the legendary midfielder was replaced by Xavi Hernandez in November.

Ahead of 2022/2023, however, the arrival of the likes of Lewandowski and a return to fitness for Fati has seen Depay drop down the pecking order.

Despite an impressive campaign for the Netherlands at Qatar 2022, Depay has been unable to feature in Xavi's plans save for a start in the Copa del Rey against Intercity in early January.
