Indian music
indian music, I thought I'd mention the Indian music scene here. If I find anything on it, I'll post it on there as well.
Indian music is an eclectic mix of genres. There's the classical genre, the 'easy listening' genre, the contemporary genre, the devotional genre, and the traditional genre. Not all of the musicians in the 'easy listening' genre play Indian music though. Some just sing along to the backing track, which is where my experience with the music I've heard has come from. They are good enough to play Indian music on their own though. There are a lot of good modern Indian musicians. I don't really know much about the traditional music because I haven't listened to a lot of it. I'm sure it's great though. I think the easiest way to get started is the easiest one. Download an Indian album. Go back and listen to what they play, and decide which ones you like the best. Then, find out which albums are the best ones. I've found there's not a huge difference in what you'll enjoy about the different Indian genres, though. Re: Indian Music - I'm Indian @welcomeintheworld - Yeah, I used to hang out at Bollywood and Indian music. But I really don't know much about the other genres. I've never heard of traditional Indian music. Just listening to Ravi and Sajid Khan songs on YouTube doesn't seem to be enough to know about it. I have a friend who is into it though. She's got a lot of good Indian music on her phone. (And she's the only one I know of who can speak fluent Hindi!) Re: Indian Music - I'm Indian There's so much different kinds of Indian music, my friend has been playing around with a lot of different genres. Most of it's kind of like an experiment in my head now. If she's not busy, I'll have to ask her if she can check out some of it when she gets home. Re: Indian Music - I'm Indian I've only heard some of the traditional stuff but I liked it. I think the best thing you can get away with is just to enjoy the way they sound and not worry about what they're actually playing. I had some classical Indian music in my earbuds when I was driving and it really helped drown out the sounds outside. Re: Indian Music - I'm Indian You know, I think it's best to find a genre you like and then work off of that. I think that I'd enjoy more traditional Indian music because I'm not into Indian pop or modern Indian music very much. I'd really just like to find a record of traditional Indian music and listen to it without any context. I haven't seen any of Sajid Khan's music, but Ravi Shankar's YouTube channel is really good. He has a lot of music by non-Indian musicians who he incorporates Indian sounds into their songs. I heard one of his covers of the Black Eyed Peas song and it was pretty good. There's some really good music from musicians like John Mayer and Bon Iver. There are a few really good Bollywood songs too. Re: Indian Music - I'm Indian @TheBluesBrother - Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. So, what genre do you prefer? Are you into traditional Indian music? @welcomeintheworld - I'm not sure what you mean by traditional. I just know that Ravi Shankar, whose songs I've heard, incorporates non-Indian sounds. It's what's going on in the background that really makes the song. I've never heard any non-Indian music, though. I just don't understand how you use Indian sounds into non-Indian music. That's the only reason I've heard of it. I just don't know how you do it. Re: Indian Music - I'm Indian @welcomeintheworld - Yeah, my friend has been playing with a lot of Indian genres. She has a huge collection of Hindi and Bollywood songs. She uses her collection to try to match songs with instruments to figure out what sounds she'd like. There's so much music there now that it's hard to know what to listen to. So many of the songs she uses are the same, or similar. They're all in India and they're all the same. Here are some of the instruments and styles that are represented: Music from the 1920s and 1930s is the classical Indian style. Music from the 1950s is the 'easy listening' Indian style. Music from the 1980s and 1990s is the 'new' Indian style. Re: Indian Music - I'm Indian Oh, I think it's nice to have music from different cultures. Most Indian musicians sing in Indian languages. I think it's nice to have music from non-Indian languages and cultures to learn about, too. I think the traditional stuff is a bit easier to figure out. I like Sajid Khan's music too. I think I'd like to get into modern Indian music more, because the Bollywood stuff I've heard doesn't really stand out. I'm going to have to get some real Indian music to listen today..,
